Deep, infrequent water is the whole game: weekly through the first two summers, then every two to four weeks once established. Overwatering — especially in lawns — is the number one killer, browning trees from the inside out. Sharp drainage always.
Almost none. Never top a cypress; it will not regrow a leader and the silhouette is ruined for good. Light tip-shearing keeps a column extra tight, and flopping branches in wind or snow-country can be discreetly spiral-tied inside the foliage.
A light balanced feeding in early spring is plenty; cypress in native soil often needs nothing. Fast, soft, over-fed growth is weaker in wind and more attractive to mites.
Spider mites thrive on dusty, drought-stressed trees — a monthly hard rinse of the foliage in summer is the best prevention. Prune out any flagging branch (possible canker) well below the damage with sterilized tools, and dispose of it away from the garden.
